LETTER FROM THE PRESIDENT
*********************************************************************

Dear Friends,

Itís beginning to look a lot like...oh, wait a minute. Not yet! Doesnít it seem like every year, the stores are pushing us to begin our holiday shopping earlier and earlier? I think I saw Christmas decorations up in the supermarket right after Halloween. I was quite impressed to see an add for Nordstromís, announcing that they would not be decorating any of their stores for the holidays until after Thanksgiving. Of course, that meant one minute after midnight last Thursday, but whatíre you gonna do?!

Itís so important not to rush through our lives. Weíre always so busy, running here and there that we often lose sight of ourselves and our goals. Slow down. Put your feet up and read a good book once in a while. And hey ñ while youíre sitting down, maybe even reading this right now, perhaps youíd consider supporting our friends over at Ecology Fund (
http://www.ecologyfund.com/ecology/_ecology.html)? (Slick segue, eh? LOL). At absolutely no cost to you (NONE!), and for just clicking a few buttons at their site, you can help save endangered wild lands. To date, 55.7 square miles all around the world have been conserved! And while youíre at it, you can also visit http://www.thehungersite.com, which gives you access to six other clicks you can do daily for charity: The Breast Cancer Site, The Rainforest Site, etc. What a great way to give painlessly!

Anyway, I hope all of you had a wonderful Thanksgiving with your families ñ I sure did.

My heart to yours,

Ann

PS ñ Donít forget that next month is our last newsletter for the year ñ phew! Tempest fugit ñ if thereís something youíd like to share ñ dreams for the future...messages of peace...hopes for the new year ñ anything ñ please be sure to send it in.

From Donna Pinto <donnapinto@yahoo.com>

"Seven Year Ache...I hope he comes back soon!"

There were about 40 people at Kevin James Yeargin's November 6th Doylestown, PA show. A good number of us were introduced to the blonde-haired country boy when he drove up from North Carolina for the November, 1997 John Denver memorial held by the "Hearts in Harmony" fan club. Back then, Kevin had to be forced to sing lead on any of the songs but his marvelous "For Bobbie" will never be forgotten... now he's played 75 solo gigs this year alone, including opening for Keith Urban and Kenny Chesney. KJ wanted to thank his East Coast friends for their support by giving a free "home" concert at Salem United Church and we were all thrilled to be there!

Kev only did two JD-written songs, "Leaving On a Jet Plane" and the final encore, "This Old Guitar." Other highlights included lots of Billy Dean, Keith Urban, James Taylor, and Dan Fogelberg tunes. His playing was AWESOME as always...especially evident on the Fogelberg stuff. Other highlights included the guitar parts on "Chevy Van" and George Harrison's "Give Me Love (Give Me Peace On Earth)". Like many of Harrison's songs, the timing is rather complicated but KJ pulled it off so well! There were lots of smiles and those funny looks he gets when he knows he played a particularly difficult bit well.

Being Kevin, he had the stage set with a Southwestern rug that displayed four guitars, including two 12-strings and three 6-strings. Three were purchased from a dealer that helped Dan Fogelberg sell off 55 of his guitars. The inlay on the Fogelberg L-55 Yamaha and the back woodwork was really nice. Kev also had along a Guild, Ibanez, and Martin.

As always, we had lots of fun during the break with all of the goodies Cindy Donaldson brought with her. We also spent the break looking at pictures of a 1997 JD concert, checking out the 2004-2005 John Denver Connection t-shirts (really nice image with columbines and lyrics from "Durango Mt. Caballero") and calendars (lots of Barb White and Patty Peavey pics), and exchanging items for the Windstar Spirit Connection - thanks, Barb). Kev's friend Val showed us photos of Dan Fogelberg playing the guitars he originally had built... it's easy to see and audibly evident that they are KJ's pride & joys!

As always, Kevin was really happy to be playing for us "Denver People"... he's played at JD tributes in Aspen, Colorado, Central Park and the Pier in New York City, NJ Windstar Vision Walk in North Jersey, and even helped the North Carolina Friends of John Denver organize an event.

Seven years later, many of the friendships formed at a time of mourning are still bring us togther. Val and KJ hung around to talk for a while but had to leave as they were driving to Virginia after the show to be at her son's hockey game by 8 AM. Ouch!

If you can, check out his webpage at http://www.kjyeargin.com and maybe "us" East Coast people will have the chance to catch Kevin him maybe at another ski resort in 2005...

Peace,

Donna

From Sherry Cook <backhomagain@yahoo.com>

Hello friends!

Did you ever have a simple idea just hit you right out of the blue?! Last night while discussing my Mary Kay business, a realization hit me just like that! For over a year now, I have been a Mary Kay consultant, but it has been one part of my life and carrying on John Denver's legacy has been another. The two didn't seem to harmonize, but with this idea, they are! I have a website (www.MaryKay.com/scook2426). If you will visit my website and place an order, I will donate a portion of my proceeds to Windstar. That way, whatever you purchase will help my business grow, and more importantly to me, Windstar grow! It's just the perfect time to order Christmas gifts, too!

And don't think you guys are left out, either...no sir! Every guy who tries the shave cream LOVES it! Also, there are several men's colonges that are wonderful...don't forget the special lady in your life! Everyone should treat themselves to Satin Hands! It's incredible! I hope you will "come see me" on my website! I can get whatever you order to you in plenty of time for Christmas.

Take care, everybody, and have a great day!

Thank you!

Peace and joy,

Sherry

A Biweekly Update from Defenders of Wildlife: Working to Save Wildlife and Wild Lands

Sign Our Endangered Species Pledge, Save Our Vanishing Wildlife
Polar Bears, Arctic Dwellers Face Extinction Due to Global Warming
Fifth Biennial Carnivore Conference Considered a Success
Protect America's Wildlife and Receive a High Rate with a Defenders Gift Annuity
Global Network Releases Count of Endangered Species
National Forest Roadless Rule Comment Period Ends
Defenders Receives Award for Proactive Grizzly Bear Work

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

1. Sign Our Endangered Species Pledge, Save Our Vanishing Wildlife

In the upcoming Congress, our vanishing wildlife will be under attack as never before. Congressional leaders have already announced plans to roll back the Endangered Species Act, which protects our wolves, bald eagles, sea otters, manatees and many more animals. Defenders is asking its members and others who care about threatened animals and plants to sign our endangered species pledge and help us work to prevent extinctions. Help us reach our goal of 100,000 signatures! Visit www.saveesa.org to sign the pledge.

2. Polar Bears, Arctic Dwellers Face Extinction Due to Global Warming

Polar bears and many other arctic animals are unlikely to survive the changes occurring due to global warming, a recent report says. The report, drafted by 300 leading scientists from around the world, states that as much as 60 percent of the Arctic's ice coverage could be gone by the end of the century. Despite the fact that catastrophic warming is occurring, many politicians are still pushing for drilling in the Arctic National Wildlife Refuge and elsewhere, rather than working for energy conservation and renewable energy development.

3. Fifth Biennial Carnivore Conference Considered a Success

The fifth biennial carnivore conference sponsored by Defenders came to a close last week. The conference was considered a smash hit. About 700 people from around the U.S. and the world attended this year's event, which included three days of sessions on a huge array of carnivores ñ raptors, bears, wolves, smaller carnivores, marine mammals and more.

4. Protect America's Wildlife and Receive a High Rate with a Defenders Gift Annuity

A gift annuity is a powerful way to preserve our natural heritage for future generations while receiving an attractive income for life. You can donate cash or stock and receive steady payments that are partially tax-free. For example, Arlene Smith, age 70, creates a Defenders gift annuity with $10,000 in cash and receives 6.5 percent or $650 each year for life. She also takes a charitable deduction of $3,777 in the year of her gift. By using stocks, she could reduce the impact of capital gain tax.

You can establish a deferred gift annuity as a convenient way to plan for retirement or future college expenses. Create your own illustration for a gift of cash with our online calculator. Or, to receive an illustration for a gift of stock or a deferred gift annuity, please contact us toll-free at 1-800-915-6789 or legacy@defenders.org.

5. Global Network Releases Count of Endangered Species

The World Conservation Union (IUCN), a leading environmental information network, recently released a list of 15,589 species around the globe that are on the brink of extinction. A quarter of all mammals, an eighth of birds, a third of amphibians, and nearly a half of turtles and tortoises are considered in danger. The new number marks an increase of more than 3,000 from past estimates. Habitat loss, the introduction of exotic species, and climate change are thought to be the major influences on extinctions.

6. National Forest Roadless Rule Comment Period Ends

The comment period for the Bush administration's plan to repeal the popular rule that protects the remaining 58 million acres of roadless areas in the nation's forests ended on November 15. At least 1.7 million comments, including more than 100,000 from members of Defenders and the affiliated Defenders of Wildlife Action Fund, were submitted in opposition to the repeal. Now, it's up to the Bush administration to decide if they want to listen to the majority of Americans, or ignore the will of the people.

7. Defenders Receives Award for Proactive Grizzly Bear Work

For the second time in a year, Defenders has been awarded for its proactive work on grizzly bear conservation. Presented to Minette Johnson, the group's northern Rockies field representative, the award was for "outstanding cooperative efforts to promote recovery of the grizzly bear in the Yellowstone ecosystem by compensating ranchers for livestock losses, supporting sanitation efforts and cooperating in partnership efforts to retire key grazing allotments." It was given by the Yellowstone Ecosystem Subcommittee ñ a group of state, tribal and federal agencies and county commissioners responsible for grizzly bear recovery in Yellowstone. Learn more about our proactive efforts through The Bailey Wildlife Foundation Proactive Carnivore Conservation Fund.

DENlines is a biweekly update of Defenders of Wildlife, a leading national conservation organization recognized as one of the nation's most progressive advocates for wildlife and its habitat. It is known for its effective leadership on endangered species issues, particularly predators such as brown bears and gray wolves. Defenders also advocates new approaches to wildlife conservation that protect species before they become endangered. Founded in 1947, Defenders is a nonprofit 501(c)(3) organization with more than 480,000 members and supporters.
