“Denver’s Song”
"I have been a fan of John Denver ever since he first hit the airwaves as a solo artist in the Seventies.
Who, back then, in their right mind, didn’t like Rocky Mountain High, Annie’s Song or Sunshine On My Shoulders? John Denver
had captured the hearts of millions of fans!
"The Seventies fast became the “singer/songwriter era”, and as more and more artists gained popularity, my musical
interests rapidly multiplied, and I lost track of John’s music.
"Although I would still hear John’s music now and then, it wasn’t until 2001 that I really began listening to his
music once again. It was at that time when I met my best friend and partner, Roy Erhard, who had been and still is a lifelong
fan of John’s. He re-introduced me to John’s music and I was amazed and inspired by all the music I had missed for so many years.
I am so very grateful to Roy for bringing him into my life again. Had it not been for Roy, I would never have come to know John’s
music as I do today, or the wonderful JD friends I’ve come to know since then.
"In April of 2004, Roy and I were preparing to attend our first ‘John Denver Retreat’ in Western Pennsylvania. We wanted
to do something to make the event special but didn’t quite know what.
""Denver's Song" came to me one day out of the blue. As John might say, it came from my heart, but it was as if it had been
channeled through me from somewhere or someone else. I’m talking chills, big time! Everything I wanted to express of how I felt about
John and his music flowed out of me like wine into a goblet. An experience that brought me to tears.
"I couldn’t wait to tell Roy about it, and to play and sing “Denver’s Song” for him. Roy, being a much more seasoned guitarist
than myself, I asked him if he could possibly add that signature John Denver flavor into the melody. He did just that by incorporating
the “…Country Roads” riff throughout the song, and by adding the familiar “Eclipse” like ending, giving the song exactly what it needed
to make it a fitting tribute to John and his music.
"We performed the song for the first time at our first JD Retreat in April of 2004, for our new found friends, as we all sat
around a blazing campfire. It's a memory I hope to never forget.
"Without a doubt, his Spirit remains here, at home, with you and me."
All my best ~ Loraine Lorenz Myers
Now we all know the story of Rocky Mountain High
Written by the man who since has fallen from the sky
And I for one can tell you, what my love has brought to me
All the memories he gave us with his warm sincerity.
He sang of the Sunshine and the wind that made him smile
Of earth and all its creatures, all those in the wild
And the light that shone within him was too bright for some to see
But I learned to love his music and it still Amazes Me.
So, I’m proud to have been among The Chosen Ones
To live and learn his songs, Songs Of peace for everyone.
He lived his life freely, finding joy in living Everyday
Sharing gifts that he’d been given, while he tried to find his way.
He went Looking For Space, finding life is just that way
And how I wish to tell you what grace has come my way
And I see him now, in Singing Skies, and Dancing Waters, Today.
Yes, I see him now in Singing Skies, and Dancing Waters, Today.
So much more than a singer of songs, but a man
Whose one voice made a difference, gentle, yet strong
He reached out to tell us with a sense of urgency
This is home for our children, so It’s Up To You and me.
In The Grand Way he loved life, though he’s faded from our sight
The Boy From The Country still shines his light
Has reached a Higher Ground, far beyond where I’ve yet to be
And his Spirit remains here, at home with you and me,
Yes, his Spirit remains here, at home with you and me.
